Why Am I Cycling?

`I could give several good logical reasons why I diligently cycling now. One that must be on top of the list would be exercising for health reason. True, but if I were to be honest with my self it is not just entirely that. Just like train I guess I just love cycling and because I did not have a bicycle when I grew up the needs exploded now when I could afford any bicycle that I want. My father did not buy us a bike not because he could not afford it but more for him the bike meant a longer reach for us. Being a naughty boy that I was the bicycle will take me even further than I was used to. It was a way of protecting me from me. I could understand that but I was really angry and frustrated. All my friends had their own bike and they even cycled to school but I felt I was deprived of the excitement. My only option then was of course to borrow my friends or anybody’s bike that I could. Sometimes I was so embarrassed by it. When I was back in my kampong most of the uncles would gladly borrowed their ‘Norton’ bicycle to me. I practically could cycle every day or every time it was not being used. But I had to be very careful as the bicycle back then was the main transportation for their livelihood. The best time was when I cycled side saddle liked on paddy bund.

So I am cycling now because I did not have my own bicycle when I was a kid. Payback time!!!

Kayuhan Sawah Padi, Sg Sireh, Kuala Selangor, Mar. 8, 2009

It has been slightly more than two months since I had my last serious cycling and the Kayuhan Sawah Padi was supposed to be my reintroduction. So I was a bit unsure of myself the day before the ride. Furthermore it was a three day weekend which I could easily find many good excuses for not going. I nearly did. Deep down I knew I can’t do that as I really needed this ride. I am glad in the end I decided to go. Continue reading here.

Another Cycling Story from My Main Blog

Hopefully this is a new beginning that I am going to be serious again. I am thinking of upgrading my bike since the pleasure is here again.

On Sunday Morning, Nov. 2, 2008

It has been awhile that we had not cycle together. Partly my fault for being away most weekend and only lately that I could be active again. Even that since I got back on the bike I cycled alone so far. My story has been in my other blog so here it is.

What a long 'rest'

School holidays and continuous other commitments by regulars riders hampered out weekly activity for the past weeks. I guess we only have this weekend before Ramadhan. If not we would certainly be down to ground zero as far as cycling goes. At least at my age it would not be easy to start all over again after a long ‘rest’ and eventual long eating season during Hari Raya month. Unless, one big unless, we somehow find ways to cycle around our ‘kampong’ at night. What do you say guys?

UKM Again After Lapse of Few Weeks

Although I was active every week playing football and what not I just knew I was going to pay for not cycling enough for the past few weeks. Having Acong and Mazri with their better machine as riding companions would be pushing it a bit for me. But I had to pay my dues. Getting to UKM was not as smooth as before for me and the climb was even worse as I agonizingly tackled the incline. Once we were in UKM Acong and Mazri raced up trying to beat each other and left me suffering alone. Indeed I was as with no one to help to pull me up I geared down to the lowest and inched slowly at my own pace. It was really painful :))

The thing I love riding in the early morning is to witness the morning sunlight breaking in through trees, if not forest. This somehow took the pain away a little bit. The first time I experience this was just after Teras Jernang’ junction moving towards UKM. It was so pleasant that I almost stop to bath under it. I was really tempted but since Mazri and Acong already in UKM’s vicinity I sped away to catch up. The second time was when we were already at our halfway point taking a rest. It was not as good as before, still it created nice feeling in me and rejuvenated me somehow.

Again I was left behind on the way home.
